Obesity has become a global pandemic, with more than one-third of the population meeting the criteria for obesity. It is commonly associated with comorbidities, such as heart and renal disease and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis which, in turn, can lead to end-stage organ failure. Bariatric surgery is the most effective solution for morbid obesity, and the number of patients undergoing it is rapidly and constantly growing.
The prevalence of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is increasing, but data on its long-term effect on obesity-related comorbidities are scarce. Due to the population of bariatric patients being young, the long-term results of those comorbidities are highly relevant.
